Lagoon Sixty 5 – an alliance of tradition and modernity
After a great success with Lagoon Seventy 7 in 2019, world leader in manufacturing catamarans came out with another great innovation – Lagoon Sixty 5. This new model offers comfort and open space, but it does not lack sailing abilities. In fact, the improved ergonomics makes this model very easy to navigate through wind and waves and it is perfect for family vacations as well as for long-distance sailing.
The original plan was to present the Lagoon Sixty 5 in April at the International Multihull Show, however, because of the health crisis of 2020, all similar events were postponed. Nevertheless, this beauty was lastly revealed in September at the Yachting Festival in Cannes. Once again, VPLP (architects), Patrick Le Quément (exterior design), and Nauta Design (interior design) joined their forces to come up with an elegant, innovative, and modern design. This boat is now available for charter on the Croatian coast!
Twenty meters long, the Lagoon Sixty 5 comes as the successor of the older version Lagoon 620 in size, but with her smooth lines, slender hulls and exceptional elegancy it is in fact the smaller sister of the impressive Lagoon Seventy 7. With the sophisticated design, worked out to the slightest detail, the Lagoon Sixty 5 earned a place among the best luxury sailing yachts. Her volume and open space combined with ample and bright salon will instantly impress you. The wide transom platform and low stairs facilitate entrance to a huge cockpit, a perfect place for socializing in the open air. Whether the transom platform is lifted or lowered, all spaces are connected and it makes movement between spaces very easy. The interior is equally magnificent with a lot of open space surrounded by windows that let the natural light in and enables the breathtaking view of the sea.
At a first glance Lagoon Sixty 5 is all about comfort and space. However, the previous experience of the designers allowed them to think of innovations that will result in creating a yacht that offers not only maximum comfort but also excellent performance and sailing abilities. Its generous proportions are accompanied by an appropriate sail area, which makes it seaworthy and easy to navigate. Except for the two strong engines, the Lagoon Sixty 5 is equipped with a mainsail and a genoa with a total sail area of 268 sqm, with the possibility of integrating Code 0 or other sails as a compliment.
Moreover, the new model is very easy to handle. With the two helms positioned on a spacious flybridge, the full 3600 views from the skipper’s position are guaranteed at any time. The twin helm is brought forward to enable the shorthanded cruising and the rigid bimini offers a constant view on sails when hoisted-up, as it is equipped with see-through glass. With this arrangement, the captain is in total control of navigation, while the rest of the crew can enjoy the spacious flybridge and magnificent view of surroundings.
Still, on Lagoon Sixty 5, safety comes first. The innovations in design and open space allow maximum safety on board. Wide aft and low stairs enable easy access directly to a spacious cockpit and from there you can easily access the flybridge through the wide stairs to the port.
The soft, sculptural curves, open decks, and smooth transitions between spaces make the new Lagoon model recognizable and aesthetically pleasing. Simplicity in style clearly inherited from other models of new generation Lagoon catamarans, creates an even more luxurious impression.
Luxury combined with comfort is emphasized in a big, bright salon. The central point of social life is usually outdoors, in the cockpit, but on-board Lagoon Sixty 5 the salon is impressive too. This space is located forward, open, and full of light thanks to the large windows that close around the salon. A clear view of the surroundings is guaranteed from every spot of the salon and space is filled with natural light. Nauta Design did a fantastic job with the interior design. The choice of light colors, grey oak, and beige upholstery for the sofas complement the whole experience. A large, comfortable u-shaped sofa surrounds the salon and there are two tables positioned in the middle – a large dining table to the starboard and a low coffee table on the port side. The salon can occupy the total space of the central deck, which delivers a massive space for the guests to enjoy. With this layout, the galley is moved to the lower deck, but the choice of layout depends on the owner, as the galley can also be positioned on the central deck, next to a salon. With this new model, the owner can choose his desired layout and customize it to the maximum.
The salon offers direct access to the foredeck lounge area, so once you step onboard Lagoon Sixty 5, the straight view from aft to bow is guaranteed, as well as a 360⁰ view of the surroundings from every point of the boat. The lounge area offers a nice place to relax too. It provides comfortable sofas and a coffee table in the middle, as well as a canopy shade that can be installed optionally.
Conventionally, the cabins are accessed from the salon, however, the different layouts are once again possible. A layout with a master cabin dedicates the entire starboard aft side to the owner and even private access to the water to aft. The master cabin features a wide island bed in the middle that faces the wide windows. It includes abundant storage space and even a workspace with a desk, bookshelves, and a nice sofa in interesting indigo color. Nevertheless, when it comes to the spaciousness, other cabins are also not neglected. Forward to the bow, there is a large VIP cabin that features a private dressing area, large mirrors, and an impressive shower cabin. All cabins offer a generous overhead height and they include an island bed in the middle, enough storage space, and natural light.
The same luxurious style of the salon has been applied in the design concept of each cabin for the guests. The perfect combination of spaciousness, natural light, and colors of the furniture in all areas of the boat contributes to the elegancy and luxury of the new Lagoon model.
In all previous Lagoon catamarans salon and galley are connected in one central space, but the innovation in Lagoon Sixty 5 leaves two possibilities. Following the tradition, the galley can be positioned next to a salon, but the innovative design moves the galley to the lower deck on the port side. With this layout, the cozy galley is accessed directly from the cockpit.
The cockpit itself is massive. The wide platform and low stairs open access to the cockpit, which is the first place you’ll see once you step on the boat. Its central point is a comfortable table for 8 people, great for dining or simply socializing and relaxing over a couple of drinks. Another small, but ingenious innovation is a versatile bench at the aft, that can face the cockpit area, but thanks to the pivoting backrest it can command the view on the sea.
Connection between spaces is what makes Lagoon Sixty 5 so delightful. On the port side, the cockpit provides wide, safe access directly to the flybridge. Although in the beginning the flybridge has been intended as a commanding spot for the captain, recently it became more and more popular as the area for socializing and accordingly, the flybridge became larger and larger on newer models of catamarans. So, Lagoon Sixty 5 with its huge flybridge area can be considered a masterpiece among new generation catamarans. Once again, the designers came up with several different layouts and left the final choice to the owner. But whichever layout you choose, two things are guaranteed – the twin helms that ensure easy navigation and an excellent, comfortable area for entertainment.
The Lagoon Sixty 5 is available in several different versions, so the user can choose what suits him best. The presence of a master cabin is also optional. Usually, the aft on the starboard side is reserved for the master cabin with direct access to the water through the cockpit, but this cabin can be replaced with a cabin with twin beds. Apart from this, all other ensuite cabins have island beds and a lot of storage space. The version with 4 cabins is intended for maximum comfort in all cabins, having a master cabin and a VIP cabin on the starboard side, while the port side comprises of 2 additional cabins for 4 people and a galley moved to the lower deck.
This version offers the possibility of having a vast, comfortable salon on the central deck, but it is up to the owner to decide whether he wants to have the galley accessed from the cockpit or positioned along to the salon. Of course, the version with the galley up reduces the area of the salon, but it still offers a large open space with the kitchen island in the middle.
The area of the flybridge can also be modified according to the wishes of the owner. The position of the two helms in the front is fixed, but the area for socializing can be altered. The owner can choose between having a table in the middle with 8 surrounding chairs and two sofas behind or a table with a large and comfortable corner sofa. Of course, if the owner wants to dedicate the whole area to the captain, the version without furniture is also available.
The size and the capacity of Lagoon Sixty 5 provide a lot of possibilities for installing various parts of equipment. The kitchen is equipped with excellent Miele appliances including an electric stove and oven, microwave, double sink, double fridge, and a freezer. Needless to say, all utensils work the best when the boat is in the marina and connected to the power grid, but the strong generator supports the whole system, so the guests can feel equally pleasant even when sailing.
Apart from all essential utensils, the guests who choose to rent a model that is available for charter in Croatia will have the advantage of using equipment such as a dishwasher, ice maker, and coffee machine for maximum comfort.
In order to make your experience even more fun, this boat is equipped with a barbecue and various water toys such as stand-up paddles, kayak, wakeboard, water tube, waterskis, and electric scooters.
